The combination of cutting-edge technology, design thinking and unprecedented support from volunteers and SMEs has once again led to success for Saffron Interactive and Surf Life Saving NSW. This time securing Gold at 2020’s Learning Technologies Awards, for ‘Best use of blended learning – public & non-profit sector’.
Having achieved ‘Highly Commended’ at the AITD Excellence Awards, earlier in the week, Saffron and Surf Life Saving NSW were thrilled to celebrate this double win.
Saffron’s CEO Noorie Sazen, said, “Winning Gold is a testament to the lifesavers and the team at Surf Life Saving NSW’s research-based blended design and architecture of the programme. Saffron also developed an innovative simulation for the use of radios interactions by replicating the push to touch technology and allowing the learner to record their voice in response to emergency scenarios so learners could listen to their own responses”.
The judges were impressed with “the thorough research that had been undertaken on the audience and how the programme had been customised to their needs. An impressive collection of content, thoughtful use of technology and a seamless blend of various methods, appropriately applied throughout the programme, which generated tangible results”.
Louise Cooke, Surf Life Saving NSW’s Membership and Community Programs Manager, noted “The team is incredibly proud to have the organisation’s work in this space recognised externally – we worked hard and collaboratively with our volunteers and partners to create an evidence-based blended program which could be flexibly delivered to meet the needs of Surf Life Saving. With the support of hundreds of passionate volunteer trainers and assessors across Australia, we are confident that the program will result in more confident lifesavers, translating to better outcomes for the beach-going public”.
