Samaritans and Saffron secure spot in Learning Awards shortlist with Veterans App innovation

One year since its launch, the Veterans App celebrates continued acclaim with shortlisting in the 2023 Learning Awards ‘Innovation in learning’ category.

The Samaritans Veterans App has had an incredible freshman year – launching to resoundingly positive response from users, stakeholders and external awarding bodies. Over the last 12-months, the app has been able to support in excess of 3,000 veterans to better manage their own emotional wellbeing and successful transition back into civilian life.

This recent shortlisting in the Learning and Performance Institute’s Learning Awards ‘Innovation in learning’ category builds on the achievement for best ‘Mobile Learning Experience’ in the 2022 International E-Learning Association’s (IELA) annual award showcase. The app has also been shortlisted at the upcoming Learning Technologies awards, with results to be announced later this month.

Saffron Interactive is no stranger to the Learning Awards and hopes to replicate previous success, after achieving Gold in the ‘Learning Technologies’ category last year. Both Saffron and the Samaritans teams are delighted that the innovative design of this app has been recognised and is well placed to mirror previous accomplishments.

Keith Leslie, Chair of Trustees at Samaritans, said this of the app’s impact, “We worked very closely with veterans when developing the app to ensure that it was something that they would use and supported their specific needs, which is critical to its success and uptake.”

Saffron Interactive’s CEO, Noorie Sazen, stated “We are truly thrilled with the achievements of the Samaritans Veterans App. Our long-standing partnership with the Samaritans has been very gratifying and was essential in delivering an exceptional and innovative project. The teams worked in tandem to develop an app unlike anything else available to this cohort. We are proud of the impact and quantifiable results that the innovation provides.”

After presenting to an esteemed panel of independent judges in the next few weeks, the shortlisted projects will be assessed, and final winners announced at the 27th annual awards showcase in February 2023.

The Veterans App remains available and is free to download on both desktop PCs and all major mobile and tablet devices.
